Gamma Epsilon Philanthropy

As a chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta, located at Western University in London, Ontario, Canada, Gamma Epsilon supports various local charities, organizations and events through donations, advocacy and volunteer hours.

Airbands

Airbands is Kappa Alpha Theta's official philanthropic event supporting our main charity CASA. Airbands is essentially a dance battle between the fraternities on campus. This event is based around creating a stronger greek presence and spreading the word about CASA. Each year we raise over $5000 for CASA, and hope to continue this success in the years to come.

Treat Yourself With Theta

Every year Theta hosts a philanthropic event supporting the Canadian Mental Health Association. CMHA Middlesex offers mental health support for people ages 16 and older across London, Strathroy, Exeter and Goderich. The event was held at the official Kappa Alpha Theta house, where greek and non-greek crowds were welcomed in for unlimited desserts and treats - hence, Treat Yourself With Theta. The desserts and treats ranged from candies to cookies to cakes and were even categorized for vegans. All admission fees/proceeds were admitted to CMHA Middlesex in support of their most urgent needs. Overall, the event was a huge success and our chapter raised just over $2,300 for the Canadian Mental Health Association! We can't wait to do it again next year!

Boys and Girls Club

“We are an affordable, safe and supportive family facility where children, youth, adults and seniors can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop confidence, leadership and skills for life.”

The Boys and Girls Club of London is a non-profit family recreational facility that provides activity and care for children and youth whenever school is out. This gives parents a safe, responsible and loving environment to trust and leave their children in when they are busy working to support their family. The services are planned to provide fun with a purpose – a place where children can play and learn. The club offers hope, inspiration and opportunities to ensure that children and youth reach their full potential.

The sisters of Gamma Epsilon visit the Boys and Girls club numerous times each school year in order to participate in the inspiring work they do. Our members often join other fraternity members and give their time to volunteer at the club and participate in games, sports, arts and learning activities with the children. Last year girls came away from this experience feeling inspired by these children. The children have much to learn from us, and vice versa we have a lot to learn from them. Our presence helps out the club by giving other volunteers a break, and giving the children a chance to interact with and learn from university students.

Ronald McDonald House

“Children heal faster and cope better with their loved ones nearby. That’s why Ronald McDonald House Charities Southwestern Ontario keeps families together when they need each other most. Our House provides a home away from home for families of seriously ill or injured children receiving medical care in a nearby London hospital.”

Ronald McDonald House London is a place where out-of-town families with children can stay for as long as they need. By providing things like a private room and bath, homemade dinners, laundry facilitates and other comforts of home for just $10 a night, Ronald McDonald is able to bring a bit of “normal” to families with sick kids, while lifting some financial burdens. The house now has 34 bedrooms and is continuing to grow in order to provide comforting and supportive programs and services to help families in difficult health situations.

The women of Gamma Epsilon are able to contribute to the sense of home that the Ronald McDonald house offers. At various times throughout the year, groups of sisters go to the house to bake treats for the families and children staying at the home. Their warm presence and warm treats make it impossible for these families not to smile. The sisters of Gamma Epsilon enjoy devoting their time to this inspiring organization, and will continue to do so for years to come.
