“The mission of the National Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Association, together with its state and local members, is to support and promote court-appointed volunteer advocacy so that every abused and neglected child can be safe, establish permanence and have the opportunity to thrive.”

CASA volunteers aid judges in making informed and passionate decisions as to what is best for the neglected child, so that he or she may have a chance at a childhood that will help them be happy and safe, while growing to reach their full potential. These volunteers and programs help a displaced child find security, home and family. Neglected and abused children have a better chance of living in safe, loving and secure homes when they have a CASA volunteer on their side. Today, more than 900 CASA programs are in operation with over 70,000 women and men serving as CASA volunteers for 240,000 abused and neglect children. But 400,000 children are still waiting for a volunteer, to be their voice in court and to ensure the safe embrace of a loving and stable family. Therefore, the continuing commitment and dedication for Kappa Alpha Theta chapters internationally is extremely important.

As Kappa Alpha Theta’s selected philanthropy for the past 25 years, chapters across Canada and the United States have supported Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) to ensure that as many children as possible can have CASA on their side. Over the years, the organization has contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars, as well as countless volunteer hours. Last year alone Kappa Alpha Thera raised over $1,000,000 for CASA with a commitment to donate $2,000,000 over the next two years. Chapter members and alumnae work tirelessly, generously and passionately to raise money and spread awareness for CASA. Thetas give to CASA in many ways: as thoughtful advocates, committed volunteers and generous donors. Individually and as a fraternity we say “I am a Theta. I am for the Child.”

Our chapter, Gamma Epsilon, has truly exemplified a commitment to service through our dedication to CASA. Kappa Alpha Theta at Western hosts an annual philanthropic event, called Airbands. We invite members of the community, the university and other Greek organizations on campus to participate in the event, learn about CASA, and give to CASA. This event is a highlight of the year for many of our sisters, as we are able to come together as leading women and promote, donate and raise money for an organization that each one of us is truly passionate about.
